DG's Newsletter

Happy Birthday to us all. February is quite a special month for Rotary as it celebrates its 118th year in service providing countless volunteer hours with its 1.4 million members worldwide. The District Governor Times, covers the history and where it all began with our founding member Paul Harris in its special anniversary edition of February.

Happy new year fellow Rotarians! As we usher into the 2023 year of service, we are ever more committed and engaged to change the lives of our communities. The District marks the first half of its six month progress in this special month of January with our state of the district address presenting our successes, challenges and way forward which you will find reflected in our Governor’s message this month.

As you all prepare to celebrate the holidays with your family and loved ones, the District Governor Times brings you the wonderful read of this month’s top story as it takes you behind the incredible journey of our District Governor, Azeb Asrat who successfully managed to visit the Rotary clubs in Kenya and South Sudan throughout the last four months. We take you through her fellowships, engagement with club leaders, members, project visits and her Impact Tour as part of the Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones initiative to promote Rotary causes to our communities at large.

At the 1917 convention, outgoing Rotary president Arch Klumph proposed setting up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” That one idea, and an initial contribution of $26.50, set in motion a powerful force that has transformed millions of lives around the globe. Yes, this month we put emphasis on the Rotary Foundation as our top story telling its history and where we are now in the world of giving.

Our fellow readers, welcome to the month of October! The District Governor Times continues to tell our Rotary stories and people in action as members and clubs continue to engage in advancing Rotary causes. This month is quite special because it signifies the one project that Rotary International has spearheaded to global impact changing millions of lives; POLIO.

Melkam Addis Amet! (Happy Ethiopian New Year)! We warmly welcome you to our exciting September issue of the District Governor Times as we send our warmest wishes to our Ethiopian brothers and sisters for their New Year celebrations that will commence on the 11th of this month.

The editorial team is particularly excited to start telling our rotary club stories in this month’s edition of our DG Times Newsletter.
