District Governor for Rotary District 9212, Wairimu Njage, will kick off her October 2025 engagements with a courtesy call to Pumwani Hospital’s management.

Pumwani Maternity Hospital, a flagship public maternal and newborn care center in Nairobi, is expected to embark on a bold transformation following the Rotary Foundation’s approval of a Global Grant specifically designed to support its upgrade.

Through a partnership drawing together the Safaricom Foundation, Nairobi County, and Rotary Clubs across District 9212, the initiative will upgrade medical equipment, modernize core facilities and boost key services and provisions for the mothers and babies at the hospital.

Pumwani Hospital faces high demand as Nairobi's leading maternity and neonatal care provider, handling approximately 20,000 deliveries annually.

To mark the commitment, District Governor for Rotary District 9212, Wairimu Njage, will kick off her October 2025 engagements with a courtesy call to Pumwani Hospital’s management. During her courtesy visit, the District Governor will receive a detailed report on progress to date and next steps in equipment upgrades and ancillary services that are expected to contribute to higher maternal and infant delivery standards, stronger trust in public health services, and ensure that Pumwani continues to serve as a beacon of quality care in Kenya’s capital.

`` I will hold an initial meeting with the CEO of Pumwani Hospital to assess progress made on the district grant and align stakeholders,'' the District Governor said.

Approval of the Global Grant is a testament to Rotary’s resolve to save lives. It will ensure Pumwani is equipped to serve mothers and newborns safely, with dignity. Since Pumwani is vital to maternal and child health in Nairobi and its capacity has long been strained, Rotary’s Global Grant and contributions from Safaricom Foundation and Rotary clubs will elevate the quality of care.
