Rotary and Rotaract clubs at the Kenyan coast held a one-day medical camp in commemoration of World Polio Day. There was high turnout by the community, especially for eye and general consultation.

In commemoration of World Polio Day, a one-day medical camp was conducted on October 25, 2025 at Bura Model Health Centre. The event aimed to raise awareness on polio eradication and promote access to essential health services among the community. The camp brought together various health departments and partners to provide a range of preventive and curative health services.

The medical camp was organized by Rotary and Rotaract Coast Region Clubs who supported logistics, mobilization and service delivery in collaboration with the Mwatate Sub County Health Management Team, Bura Model Health Centre and Light House for Christ Eye Centre.

The medical camp was also aimed at enhancing community awareness on polio eradication and immunization importance, providing eye screening, general consultation, cervical cancer screening, immunization, nutrition, mental health, and non-communicable disease consultation, identify and refer clients requiring specialized management and providing general awareness in health care.


About 157 patients benefited from general consultation, comprising about 27 male adults, 128 women and two children under five years. About 91 people received eye screening, with seven of them diagnosed with mature cataract and were booked for surgeries

In addition, nine children received polio vaccine, and six others received measles vaccine. Out of the 64 people who received nutrition counselling, 22 were diagnosed with moderate malnutrition and 25 others with severe malnutrition, while five children got Vitamin A supplementation.42 clients were screened for non- communicable disease and nine were screened for cancer of the cervix 

There was high turnout by the community, especially for eye and general consultation. The Coast Region Rotary and Rotaract clubs will consider conducting routine integrated medical camps to enhance access to healthcare, strengthen health education and community mobilization on immunization and non- communicable disease prevention.


The event raised awareness about the global fight against Polio and improved access to essential health services.  The event also marked a step in terms of collaboration between the Rotaract/Rotary and the Department of Health Services both at the County and Sub County levels.
