The Rotaract East Africa Impact Project (REACT) 2026 brought together more than 253 young leaders from District 9212 (Kenya), District 9214 (Uganda and Tanzania), District 9213 (Uganda) and District 9150 (Rwanda and Burundi).
In early April 2026, something special happened at the foothills of Kilimanjaro. From the 3rd to the 5th, Rotaractors from across East Africa came together with one goal; to make a real difference.
The Rotaract East Africa Impact Project (REACT) 2026 brought together more than 253 young leaders from District 9212 (Kenya), District 9214 (Uganda and Tanzania), District 9213 (Uganda) and District 9150 (Rwanda and Burundi). They came to support Machame Nkweseko Primary School, a school full of hope but facing serious challenges.
The school has 194 students, with an equal number of boys and girls. For a long time, the school has not had reliable water supply. There are 16 toilets, but without water, they cannot be used properly. This has made it hard to maintain hygiene and has affected both the health and learning of the children.
This year’s project, Project Nkweseko: Clean Water, Dignified Learning, was done in
memory of the late Dr. Magreth Swai, a kind paediatrician and dedicated Reactor from this community. The goal was to improve water and sanitation, and give children a safe and clean place to learn.
And real change started to happen.
During the project, a new nursery school was launched, giving young children a better place to start their education. Plans were also made to renovate four toilets with support from the Rotary Club of Moshi, helping to improve sanitation at the school.
More than anything, the project showed the power of working together. People from different countries came as one team, shared ideas, and supported each other.
REACT Chair Irene shared her appreciation:
“We are deeply thankful for the vibrant energy, the tireless spirit, and the genuine fellowship you brought to this project.”
Project Nkweseko shows that when young people come together with a clear purpose, they can bring real change and hope for a better future.
